Jon's Business Ideas: PinkBox

Pinkbox
Adult DVD Rentals

Now look.

This idea might seem a little racy to some of you.

But, here is the deal.

In life, you can't please everyone. But, a lot of people, and I mean a LOT of people.......pleasure themselves daily when it comes to adult content.

The adult industry is a billion dollar industry. Your priest probably watches porn, as does the super nice guy next door, and yes, probably even your mother.

Like it or not..........the market is there.

Now, you are probably asking yourself. Is an upstanding gentleman like Jon promoting the adult industry?

Yes.

So.........here it is.

Pinkbox.

Have you heard of Redbox?

Of course you have. They rent DVD's for $1 a piece. They are all over the place. You get charged a late fee each day and then you can own the video if you are late too long.

Awesome system.

I don't know the numbers, but I imagine it's highly successful.

So.......bring on the birth of Pinkbox.

The "Redbox" that serves the adult industry. You can buy your porn and fetish videos at the discreet pink box and then return them 24 hours later. Where would these "Pink Boxes" be located?

Certainly not at McDonalds. Certainly not at Wal-mart. But you could certainly find success putting them in stores that are adult oriented or at least very close.

That would be the biggest challenge of this venture. Finding outlets that would allow you to place your "Pinkbox" on their property. And, the fact that you would have to set up distribution channels with adult websites, and girls in the industry, since something like this probably has not been done before.

Things to consider:

- You would need to have a built in mechanism in the "PinkBox" that could scan someone's ID and verify that they are 18 or over.
- You would want a constant security camera going, and all transactions recorded, in the event that someone underage bought from your "Pinkbox".
- You would have to check local and state laws to ensure you are not violating any laws or codes.
- You will have to decide what percentage of the profits you will keep for yourself, the amount of profit you will pay to the video distributors, and what type of profit you will pay to the places that allow you to place your "Pinkbox" there.
- You should identify high traffic places around the United States or the world. Redbox, last time I checked, required that you had traffic of at least 10,000 people a month if I remember correctly.
- The big thing is cost analysis. Do you have the capital to start this up? The contacts? Can you face possible media scrutiny?

  1. Hi Jon,

The other thing I think someone would have to consider would be privacy. I am sure people wouldn't like others watching them as they rent from the PinkBox.  Obviously, those who rent from a PinkBox would all be there for the same reason, however, using your example from above, what if my mother was at the same PinkBox as myself? That would be a little scary and very awkward. Also, it is cheaper to subscribe to an online porn-site, where you can view multiple movies over and over again and you don't have to worry about privacy or awkward encounters with those in your community.
